DigiSAFE TrustCrypt from ST Electronics achieves FIPS 140-2 Level 3 certification 27 September 2010

Singapore, 27 September 2010 – ST Electronics (Info-Security) Pte Ltd, today announced that its DigiSAFE TrustCryptcryptographic module, has received FIPS (Federal Information Processing Standards) 140-2 level 3 certification (#1304), awarded by the National Institute of Standards and Technology ( NIST).

DigiSAFE TrustCrypt which will be showcased at the *GovernmentWare 2010 (GovWare) exhibition, is a programmable cryptographic module designed to support high assurance applications and provide secure cryptographic resources, including secure key generation and storage. It is built upon a secure physical enclosure with a secure bootstrap that authenticates application loading. DigiSAFE TrustCrypt can be deployed as cryptographic co-processor module for Host Security Module (HSM), Secure Payment System and SCADA Control System. The programmable feature provides flexibility to users by allowing them to run custom applications within a highly secured platform. DigiSAFE TrustCrypt will be shipped in the next generation DigiSAFE encryption products for secure communications.

The FIPS 140-2 standard is part of the FIP standards developed by the United States Federal Government for use by its agencies and contractors. In particular, the FIPS 140-2 standards specify the secure design and implementation of cryptographic modules, which provide a stringent third-party independent assurance of security claims on such products.

In achieving the FIPS 140-2 certification, the DigiSAFE TrustCrypt has been comprehensively assessed in the areas including roles, services and authentication; physical security; cryptographic key management; electromagnetic interference/electromagnetic compatibility; and design assurance. In particular, FIPS 140-2 level 3 requires the cryptographic module to be physically tamper resistant against various attacks.

“This certification represents our long-term commitment to quality in our product design in meeting the stringent security requirements of government and enterprises systems. The TrustCrypt module is also an integral component in our DigiSAFE product series which offer a high level of security to ensure that our customers’ data remains safe.”
